One of the main activities of the Good Start Project is to develop a digital hygiene behavior index. The purpose of the Index is to measure the digital hygiene behavior in the daily routine of startups and other organizations in partner countries.
In the development of the Good Start Index, the literature has been scanned in detail the outcomes of previous actions have been used and items have been written accordingly.
At the beginning of this study, a 102-item question pool was created. The scale with five Likert-type response options is answered in (1) totally disagree, (5) totally agree.
The items in the question pool were presented to the opinion of 24 experts who are competent in the field for scope validity and rearranged in line with the suggestions received.
Later, the index was presented to the opinion of experts in terms of features such as understandability and easy response. Taking into consideration these opinions, the index, which has been revised to 50 items, is ready for the ROUND I data collection phase.
Round 1: Data collection
The pilot study (A2.6) was aiming to reach 30 target group representatives from each country.
The study group of the research consists of the SMEs or owners of the SMEs and managers or employees of the startups, VET institutions/providers, HEIs, industry representatives, professional organizations, and Chambers living in partner countries and volunteering in the research.
Important point
Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) are two common techniques used in scale development and scale adaptation studies.
If the relationship among the items is not known it is recommended to use EFA, but if the relationship is tested and the factors and related items are known, CFA is recommended to be used.
Some statistics from the research
What is the next step?
The construct validity of the Index was tested with Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA- see below figure) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) will be done in Round II.
The purpose of this step is to develop a valid and reliable index that measures the digital hygiene behaviours and perceptions of participants.
The second round (A2.7) is aiming to reach 50 target group representatives from each country. All partners will collect 50 questionnaires and a total of 300 questionnaires will be collected.
The study group of the research consists of the SMEs or owners of the SMEs and managers or employees of the startups, VET institutions/providers, HEIs, industry representatives, professional organizations, and Chambers living in partner countries and volunteering in the research.
